Frequently asked questions
Can I bring a travel trailer or fifth wheel?
No. Cardinal Mountain takes tents and self-contained Class B vans only. The road and the sites aren't built for towed campers.
Are there bathrooms?
Portable restrooms, serviced regularly. There's no permanent bathhouse this season.
Is there water at my site?
Not yet at the site itself, but yes on the property. There's a tap and hose fed from our own well, so bring a jug to carry water back to your site. Lines to individual sites are going in this season.
Is there WiFi or cell service?
There's 5G on the mountain, so your phone should work fine. We don't offer guest WiFi.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, leashed at all times, cleaned up after, and not left unattended at your site.
Can I bring my own firewood?
No. On-property firewood only — moving firewood spreads tree disease and invasive insects. We have firewood here.
Can I have a campfire?
Yes, in the provided fire ring, as long as Macon County isn't under a burn ban. Check the ban status before you light anything.
Which site should I book if I'm nervous about the road?
The lower numbers. Blue Ridge 1 is the easiest approach and has the most room to turn around.
How far is town?
Downtown Franklin is about 8 minutes from the gate — groceries, restaurants, breweries, and hardware.
What time is check-in?
Check-in is from 2:00 pm and check-out is by 11:00 am.
Can I bring two vehicles?
Yes at every site except 7, 14 and 15, which have room for one.
Where do I get firewood?
From Carman, who manages the property and lives on site — see the pay page for how to settle up. Please don't bring your own: moving firewood spreads tree disease and invasive insects.
Can I run a generator?
Yes, outside quiet hours. Nothing running between 11pm and sunrise.
Is there trash service?
No — pack in, pack out. There are no bins on the property, which is also what keeps wildlife uninterested in the place. Bring bags and take everything home.
Where do I store food overnight?
In your vehicle. We've never had a bear on the property and we'd rather not give them a reason to find this place. Your car is only a few steps from your deck.
