Downtown Franklin

Eight minutes from the gate: restaurants, breweries, groceries, hardware, and a walkable main street.

The short drive into town is one of the better arguments for camping here. You can pack lighter, eat out when you don’t feel like cooking, and pick up whatever you forgot.

Eating and drinking

Franklin punches above its size for a town of about 4,000. There’s a walkable main street with independent restaurants, coffee, and a few breweries — enough to make an evening of it after a day on the trail.

Groceries and supplies

Full-size supermarkets, a proper hardware store, gas, and a pharmacy. If your fire needs a grate or your cooler needs restocking, it’s a fifteen-minute round trip.

The Little Tennessee River Greenway

A paved path along the river through town, good for a flat walk, birdwatching, or stretching your legs before you drive back up the mountain.

Worth knowing

Franklin has twice been named Best Small Town by Blue Ridge Outdoors, and it’s an official Appalachian Trail Community — so through spring the town fills with thru-hikers and the whole place tilts toward the outdoors.
